Top 10 Trends for Spring 2014 from New York Fashion Week

1. Crop A Feel– Hey, girlfriend! The 90s called (and let’s be real, the 80s, 70s and prob even the late 60s) and said you could borrow their crop tops. I’m starting to think that the crop top never actually goes out of style, just lays in wait ready to pounce on its next season. You may need to reallocate some of those fashion funds to a gym membership to pull off this trend. No worries though, you’ve got six months to Get In Shape, Girl!

2. White Hot – This non-color was the it-color of the season. Everyone from Alexander Wang to Zac Posen rocked white on the runway.

3. Show & Pastel – Would it really be spring without pastels? This spring we’ll recognize the familiar color palette but add a new twist. Just when you thought it was safe to put that hot pink skinny belt away for the season; dusty rose, dewy lavender and icy aquas will be kicked up a notch with lingering neon accents.

4. Orange Ya Glad – Orange really is the new black; er…the new red, rather. The runways were full of flirty citrus lips in shades of neon tangerines and bold mandarins. Skip all those calories in your morning OJ and get your vitamin C fix on your lips.

5. Nailed It! – The days of pale pinks and bridal blushes are long gone. Expressing your sense of style through your nails has been picking up steam for the past several seasons, and this spring is no different. Matte, textured, designs, patterns, ombre, accent…the louder the better. Forget your sleeve, wear your heart on your nails!

6. Heavy Metals – Must be the anticipation of the 2014 Winter Olympics because metallics were the winner at NYFW. Shimmery shades of gold, silver and bronze will definitely be part of the metal count this spring.

7. Matched Point – Patting yourself on the back because you finally mastered the not so subtle skill of power clashing? True to form, fashion’s pulled the old switch-a-roo on us; AGAIN (so typical)! Matched print separates have replaced the print mixing trend that we’ve seen for the past few seasons. Certainly takes all the guess work (and I do mean work) out of piecing together an outfit.

8. The Braidy Bunch – Whether it was clean and classic or teased and twisted, braids secured their place as the it hair trend for spring. This timeless hairstyle can be everything from French to fishtail to playful to polished.

9. Sport it Out – Hey, girlfriend, it’s me again! Remember when I gave you the message that the 90s called re: crop tops? Well, they’re at it again and this time they’ve brought their sportswear with them. Hope you didn’t ditch all your track pants and overalls cause you’ll need them if you wanna make the varsity fashion team this spring.

10. Harper Beckham – Well because, Harper Beckham, of course! She even got Anna Wintour to smile. I rest my case.

If you’re anything like me, you’re already pulling out the clothes bin that’s been tucked under your bed since before we knew if Donna Martin would actually graduate, hoping to dust off a few key pieces that have resurfaced. And for the rest of the trends for spring 2014…it’s off to the mall!
